Privacy policy

This policy explains what happens to information when you read wpsifero.com. It covers the site itself, the advertising served on it, and the measurement tools attached to it. It is written to be read, not to be survived.

Who is responsible

The data controller for this site is WPSifero, reachable at dm@wpsifero.com. That address handles privacy requests, including access, correction, deletion and objection.

What this site collects by itself

Nothing. There is no account system, no comment form, no newsletter, and no contact form that writes to a database. The contact page uses an email link, so anything you send us arrives as ordinary email and is governed by your mail provider's terms as much as ours.

Our hosting provider keeps standard server access logs, which include IP addresses, request paths, timestamps and user agents. These are retained for a short operational window to detect abuse and diagnose outages, and are not used to build profiles or to make automated decisions about you.

Cookies and similar technologies

The site sets one item of local storage, wpsifero_cookie_consent_v1, which records your consent choices. It is strictly necessary for the consent mechanism to function and is not shared with anyone.

Everything else is optional and is set only after you agree. Full detail, including the specific cookies involved and their lifetimes, is on the cookie information page.

Advertising

This site is funded by advertising delivered through a third-party ad network. Google and its partners act as third-party vendors and use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this site and to other sites on the internet.

Specifically:

• Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and others. This is what is meant by personalised advertising.
• You can opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings.
• You can opt out of personalised advertising from many third-party vendors at aboutads.info or youronlinechoices.eu in the European Union.
• Where you decline advertising consent, we ask Google to serve non-personalised ads or no ads, depending on what the advertising programme allows for your region at that time.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share email addresses or any other contact information with advertisers. Measurement

We use Google Analytics 4 to understand which articles are read. It is configured with IP anonymisation, and it runs behind Google Consent Mode, which means that before you consent it records only cookieless, aggregated signals and sets no analytics cookies. Advertising and analytics storage both default to denied on every page load and are only upgraded if you choose to allow them.

We do not run session recording, heatmaps, cross-site tracking pixels, or social media tracking scripts.

Your consent and how to change it

On your first visit, a consent banner appears with three options: accept all, reject optional, or manage preferences individually. Nothing optional loads until you choose. You can reopen the preference panel at any time using the Cookie settings link in the footer of every page.

Legal basis

Where the GDPR or UK GDPR applies, we rely on consent under Article 6(1)(a) for analytics and advertising cookies, on legitimate interests under Article 6(1)(f) for security and abuse prevention in server logs, and on compliance with a legal obligation under Article 6(1)(c) where we are required to retain records.

Third parties that may receive data

If you consent to advertising: Google Ireland Limited and Google LLC, and the advertising partners Google works with, for ad delivery and measurement.

If you consent to analytics: Google Ireland Limited and Google LLC, for aggregated readership measurement.

On every request, regardless of consent: our hosting provider, which processes the request in order to serve the page, and Google Fonts, which serves the typefaces used by this site.

We do not otherwise transfer your data to third parties, and we do not transfer it to advertisers in identifiable form.

International transfers

Google processes data in data centres worldwide. Where data leaves the European Economic Area, transfers rely on the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses and, where applicable, the EU-US Data Privacy Framework. Google publishes its transfer safeguards in its own privacy documentation.

How long data is kept

Server access logs

Short operational window, measured in days, then rotated out.

Consent record

Stored in your browser until you clear it or change your choice. It is not sent to us.

Analytics

Retained for 14 months, then aggregated or deleted.

Advertising

Determined by Google's own retention settings, described in Google's privacy documentation.

Email you send us

Kept as long as it is useful for the correspondence, then deleted.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access the personal data held about you, to have it corrected or erased, to restrict or object to its processing, to receive it in a portable format, and to withdraw consent at any time. Withdrawing consent does not affect the lawfulness of processing carried out before you withdrew it.

If you are in California, you may also have the right to know what categories of personal information are collected, to request deletion, and to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising. We do not sell personal information in the conventional sense. Because advertising cookies can constitute "sharing" under the CPRA, the consent banner is the mechanism: rejecting advertising consent opts you out for this site.

To exercise any of these rights, email dm@wpsifero.com. Because the site holds almost no personal data, most requests resolve by confirming that we hold nothing. You also have the right to complain to your local supervisory authority.

Children

This site is written for a professional audience and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided information to us, contact us and it will be deleted.

Security

The site is served over HTTPS. Because it is a static site with no database and no user accounts, the usual attack surface of a content management system does not exist here. That is a deliberate architectural choice, not a claim of invulnerability.

Changes to this policy

When this policy changes materially, the date at the top changes and the change is summarised in the site's article feed. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the updated policy.
